All About Organic White Peppercorns:

Our white peppercorns come from the berries of the pepper vine. When the fully ripened berries have their outer covering removed, and ferment naturally in the sun – the result is creamy, white peppercorns.

White pepper has a less pungent heat compared to black peppercorns. However, their flavour is more complex and have a more earthy, musty taste.

They have an impressive list of health benefits associated with them. White peppercorns contain a compound called piperine, which helps in the secretion of the stomach juices, which helps digestive issues. They also aid in the reduction of gas and are high in fibre.

FAQ

What is white pepper used for? White pepper is used to season soups, casseroles, pies, potato dishes and white sauces. Its pale colour suits light dishes where the dark specks of black pepper would show.

What is the difference between white and black peppercorns? White peppercorns are ripened berries with the outer covering removed and left to ferment naturally, which gives them a creamy colour and an earthy, musty, more complex flavour. Black peppercorns keep their skins, so they look darker and taste sharper.

Can I use white pepper in place of black pepper? Yes, white pepper works well in place of black pepper and is the better choice in pale dishes such as white sauces and mashed potato where black specks would stand out. Add a little at a time and adjust to taste, as the flavour is more earthy.

How should I store white peppercorns? Keep white peppercorns in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat and damp. Reseal the pouch or move them to an airtight container to keep them fresh.
