What Are Organic Mung Beans?
Mung beans are used in similar ways as lentils. They have only a slightly longer cooking time averaging about 20-25 minutes. You can find plenty of uses for them in soups, curries and Chinese cooking as they have long been a staple in Asia, where they naturally originate.
Mung Beans like most pulses have a typically sweet yet rich and hearty flavour, they also make divine Bean Sprouts. Its not just me that seems to think this however, as virtually all Bean Sprouts commercially produced come from Mung Beans and Mung Beans alone. As such you have likely consumed them many times more than previously thought...The more you know eh?
Why Should I Get Organic Mung Beans?
Mung beans are very nutritious for their size being high in Manganese, Potassium, Magnesium, Folate, Copper, Zinc and B Vitamins. They are also a very filling food high in protein, resistant starch and dietary fibre.
Mung beans will usually be soft and tender within 30 minutes of boiling and like all beans they are simple to prepare tasting hearty and wholesome once cooked. They absorb flavour particularly well and will really blend well with whatever they are mixed with, this goes for savoury and sweet alike.
