A hand-carved Namji (also known as Namchi) doll from Cameroon. Carved from a single block of African rosewood into a bold geometric figure, then dressed in black beads and finished with cowrie shells, coins, metal and leather. No two are quite alike in stance, face or beadwork.
Traditionally these are fertility dolls, given to a bride at her wedding and carried as a good-luck charm. Once she has a child, the doll is kept on the family altar or passed down to her daughter.
A beautifully tactile piece with real presence — lovely on a shelf or mantel, or gathered with others.
