Well-drained soil and a sunny/semi shade spot will help this plant to reach its height and spread of 8ft in 10 years.

Soak the rootball before planting. Plant in a hole twice the diameter of the rootball or pot. Mix an organic soil improver and general fertilizer with the infill soil. Water regularly until established.

This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all of its leaves in the autumn, fresh new growth will appear in the spring. For the best stem colour, cut new growth back hard to within 5cm from the ground in March and apply a layer of compost
