Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide is a natural prebiotic ingredient that helps to fortify and balance the skin’s microbiome. From chicory root (inulin) and sugar beet (alpha-glucan oligosaccharide) which is prepared from natural sugars like sucrose and maltose, this liquid blend is suitable for all skin types—especially sensitive skin, baby care and mature skincare products.

This prebiotic forms a protective barrier on the skin, shielding it from environmental stressors like pollution, UV radiation, and wind. This ingredient is obtained through the enzymatic action of Leuconostoc mesenteroides glucosyl transferase, linking glucose monomers to form a stable compound. Gentle yet effective, it’s perfect for those who want to calm, hydrate and reinforce their skin’s natural defences.

How Prebiotics Help Skin

Prebiotics like alpha-glucan oligosaccharide feed the “good” bacteria on your skin, helping them to thrive and outcompete the bad ones. This prevents the accumulation of bad bacteria that can cause skin issues. This microbial balance helps the skin to have a healthy, strong surface.   • Excellent for use in products for sensitive skin. Also very effective in after shave lotions and creams.

  • Use in baby products in gels or creams along with the softer vegetable oils like Apricot Kernel, Peach, Kiwi and Rosehip. This will be very caring and nurturing for gentle skin.

  • An ideal ingredient for acne prone skin that is susceptible to infections.
  • It has a balancing effect that is especially effective for oily skin. Very effective in toners to use after cleansing as well as pre moisturising before using oil based serums.

  • Excellent to use in deodorants.

Hair Care

  • Use in shampoos for sensitive scalps. Effective in dandruff shampoos and dandruff hair conditioners.

Other

  • Use at 1% - 5% added to the cool down stage (below 40°C).

  • Water soluble and can be used in creams, lotions and gels. Cannot be used in oil only products.

  • Store in a dry place away from direct sunlight.
