Product Description

Product Description

Carrot Seed Oil is a clear, yellow-to-orange mobile liquid extracted by steam distillation of the dried seeds of the wild carrot plant (Daucus carota), a root vegetable. This carrot plant is different from the commonly consumed carrots, and carrot seed oil should not be confused with carrot oil, which is extracted differently. The steam distillation process ensures a high-quality extract without the use of chemicals, preserving the natural plant compounds.

The oil has a warm, soft, slightly earthy and woody, and herbaceous scent that layers well with citrus, floral, or resinous essential oils. In aromatherapy, this herbaceous scent is known to ground and reduce stress and promote relaxation.

Traditionally used for its skin-conditioning profile, this gentle emollient forms a breathable barrier that locks in moisture without feeling heavy.

Formulators use Carrot Seed Oil to add natural nourishment to creams, gels, serums, and spa treatments. The oil is loved for its ability to nourish and protect both skin and hair, so it’s a common ingredient in formulations for its protective and revitalising benefits. Rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins (including vitamin E), antioxidants, and other nutrients, the oil protects the skin, supports a healthy complexion, and promotes soft skin and a healthy-looking glow.

Although often used in daytime products, carrot seed oil contains compounds that may help protect against UV rays and sun damage.

However, it is not a substitute for traditional sunscreens and should always be used with a tested broad-spectrum sunscreen for UV protection.

Skin & Hair Applications

Carrot Seed Oil tones mature and dry skin, so it’s a favourite in overnight masks and intensive moisturisers. It can also improve skin tone and is suitable for those concerned about pores.

In daily facial creams, its subtle colour gives a radiant appearance and reduces redness, and helps with an even skin tone.

The gentle aroma provides a spa-like experience in body wraps, massage blends, and luxury lotions. Carrot seed essential oil pairs well with geranium for enhanced aromatic and therapeutic effects.

For hair, carrot seed oil can be added to shampoo to support hair health, nourish the scalp, and reduce dryness. It’s also used in dry-scalp shampoos, conditioners, and leave-in serums where it smooths the cuticle and adds shine.

Because it’s lightweight, carrot seed oil has a light texture and can be layered beneath styling products without weighing strands down. It can be used in diluted form with a carrier oil for easy application.

Spa professionals blend a few drops of carrot seed essential oil into treatment gels for wraps, scrubs, and mud masks to enhance slip and nourish the skin post-exfoliation.

How to use it

How to use it

Skin Care

  • Tones mature and dry skin.

  • Especially good in creams, lotions, gels and serums in facial products.

  • Works well in body wraps.

  • Softens and smoothes the skin.

  • Has a natural SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 38 to 40 so is good to use in daily moisturising creams and lotions.
  • This is not enough, though, to ensure adequate sun protection alone.

Hair Care

  • Very beneficial in shampoos, especially for dry scalp.

Other

  • A good ingredient in body wraps and spa treatment gels.
